Smart Home (or more often Smart House) is a term used to define an apartment that has home appliances, heating, lighting, home security, air conditioning, TVs, computers, entertainment audio and video systems, camera systems and everything else you can think of that are capable of communicating with one another. They can be controlled remotely by a time schedule, from any room in your home, as well as remotely from any location in the world by using just your phone or internet.

In 2003 the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) came up with the following definition for a smart home:
“A dwelling incorporating a communications network that connects the key electrical appliances and services, and allows them to be remotely controlled, monitored or accessed.”

And that’s about right!
